Festive Hong Kong 2010

I went to the Chinese New Year Night Parade last night in the streets of TST, Kowloon.

The tourism board has dubbed this year as "Festive Hong Kong 2010". The parade was a lot of fun with lots of music and lights and performers. If you want to learn more about the parade you can check out the above web address. This website is really great for learning all about what HK has to offer.

We are staying in the Sheraton in Kowloon and the parade was literally right out the front doors of the hotel. I walked out the door, asked the doorman if it was ok and then let myself under the caution tape to watch. The crowd control was impressive and organized. Lots of people with kids. It was fun and amazingly low key for how crowded it was! Of course I didn't have to travel on the MTR to get there! I am sure that was a mad house!

I met up with another couple that's new to HK. Oddly enough I just met these people but we all went to the same college together at the same time and B used to work with this guy at another airline. Small world! This friend of ours actually got interviewed by a local television crew from NOW TV. And I got interviewed by the Board of Tourism. It's so easy for them to pick out us foreigners! And it feels way too great to say "I LIVE HERE!"

Today is the first day of the new lunar year. Tonight there will be fireworks over the harbor. I am really looking forward to it! Kung Hei Fat Choi is how you say Happy New Year!

So Kung Hei Fat Choi everybody! I find it ironic in a good way that we are here to celebrate Chinese New Year in conjunction with celebrating the beginning of this new chapter in our lives. There are signs everywhere wishing everyone prosperity, health and happiness in this New Year. It feels good to be here right now and I am excited to see what's in store for us!
